cIGAR BOX PURSES does anyone use these?

and no i do not promote smoking!! It is a filthy disgusting habit and I smoke 2 packs a day

I think it's a nifty idea. Of course I am a bit biased since i make them for fun. always an eye catcher and conversation piece. mMany are rather unique and decorated with decoupage, my choice, and lined with felt/velvet.

The only real problem is construction. if they are not well varnished and made out of solid wood, they may be rather flimsy and unprotected against the elements. For show at best. I would make sure it has good latches and hinges. a bambo handle is a plus instead of a beaded wire one.

I've seen some rather decent ones for a fair price on ebay. the selection in stores is usually rather limited and expensive. should go for anywhere from 15-50 on ebay.

I've painted some cigar box purses. You can buy the plain cigar boxes at Michael's craft stores and they have the hardware to choose your handles. If I'm painting a picture I paint a solid color all over and then paint my picture over. I use a dark color if the colors for my picture will be light or a light color if the picture will be dark. I use acrylic paint. If you paint a canvas bag you can still use acrylic paint but you need to blend texture medium with your paint in a paper plate before you apply to the fabric

We are having a funraiser for women. I made a cigar box purse with our "mascot" for a silent auction. The theme is "Have lunch with an Old Bag". The mascot is a character called Dottie. She is whimsical and is holding 3 handbags. Now I need a saying to put on it.

What is a cute way to make a diy purse? (with fabric) I know how to make cigar box purses. Websites are cool too. :)

You could make a drawstring purse ... To do this get two squares of fabric the size that you want your purse . sew both sides and the bottom at the to turn down about an inch all around leaving an opening at each side seam . Make two handles from the fabric . By sewing a 2 inch strip of fabric about 18inches long into a tube turn tube to the outside , With one tube start at one side thread completely around and back out on the other , making a loop at top of purse. Thread the other tube starting at the other side around and back out that side. This will sort of make a figure 8 with the handles. I hope that I explained it well enough for you .
