I saw a show on TV about an artist who makes dioramas of everyday life in cigar boxes. I would like to buy one online, but I don't know what to search for. Any ideas?

this is actually very popular in mexico. you can easily find it there but you should think of buying your own cigar humidors than the ones that comes with the art. there are lots of artists who will still do art on the cigar humidors that you provide. this will also make sure that your cigars are safe. My husband works for a guy that loves cigars. He brought home some small empty cigar boxes. One is black and the other one is burgandy. I have no use for these, but he wants to keep them. Theyre not very pretty so I dont want to put them on display, but I dont really have anything to put in them!! What else can I do with them? Hes so persitant on keeping them...

i have lined them completely before with the color of my quest bathroom and added decorated soaps to them i looks really pretty i have done the same to several boxes and filled with cookies etc.and given them for gifts . use them put your touch to them im sure they will turn out beautiful !

I'm planning on customising a bunch of wooden boxes, like jewelry boxes. But I can't find anywhere that sells them for cheap. most websites have already done thiers up and I dont want to spend loads of money on them only to do my own things to them.
Does anyone know anywhere in the UK that sells anything like it? or empty wooden Cigar boxes; because that would have the same effect. i want a few but the cheaper the better I say!
The closer to manchester the better. but i'm getting a bit desperate!

Ok, if you're prepared to go wholesale there's a company near Blackpool that imports wooden boxes from Poland, DarPol I believe they are called.

Their boxes are usually pre-decorated but at wholesale they are well priced and they may have some simpler designs (I used to order chess sets from them - so only paid a little attention to their other lines).

I heard a rumor that it was an invention of a civil war general so his troops could keep their smokes clean and dry in poor conditions, so I suppose this could be true as being a morale thing but I would think a box like that would be cumbersome when carried along with the tools of war. Does anyone have any thoughts or know anything about this?

Cigars were originally sold in bundles covered with pigs' bladders (with a pod of vanilla to improve the smell); then came the use of large chests, holding up to10,000 cigars. But in 1830, the banking firm of H.Upmann started shipping back cigars, for the use of its directors in London, in sealed cedar boxes stamped with the bank's emblem. When the bank decided to go, full-scale, into the cigar business, the cedar box took off as a form of packaging for all the major Havana brands, and all hand made cigars (though small quantities today are sometimes packages in cardboard cartons, and single cigars of many brands come in aluminum tubes lined with cedar). Cedar helps to prevent cigars from drying out and furthers the maturing process.

Go to CigarsInternational.com. They sell empty cigar boxes: decorative boxes (pretty words for empty cigar cardboard boxes) 10 for $10 and empty wooden cigar boxes 10 for $19.95

Also, don't forget to ask any friends who smoke cigars...If they purchase cigars by the box...they probably still have boxes sitting around. It's close to impossible for a cigar smoker to just toss empty cigar boxes in the trash...it's like throwing books and pennies in the trash...just can't do it...so you end up with a huge stash.

Also alot of local tobbacconists will give away boxes and/or sell them pretty cheap.

I'm trying ebay, but there doesn't seem to be a good market. I have so many habano, and non cuban boxes that are good quality, wooden boxes. Some are hard to come by. My room is filled with beautiful boxes!!!

Assuming you are in the United States, you can try selling them on Craig's List. It sells to people in your local area and is 100% free to use. It may be more appealing to buyers as they can save on shipping since they could pick them up. It's worth a try. If that doesn't work you can try Ebay again and just make a bit of a profit on the "shipping and handling" part. Thats what many people do. Good Luck.
