Cigar Matches

why is it better to light a cigar with matches and not a lighter?

or is it better at all?

You can use a butane lighter and not get any taste differences to your cigar. You can even use a zippo, they have new fluid now and it does not alter the taste anymore.

Does anyone know about a white wrappered vanilla flavored cigar?
DSC6543Partagas Culebras

A while back, my friend had a cigar that he said had or white (or very light) wrapper which he thought even had little black speckles (sort of like Breyers vanilla ice cream). He said it was delicious and actually tasted just like vanilla, but no matter how hard I look I can't find any cigars that match this description. I thought it might be the bella vanilla from CAO but that was not it either.

i've never seen one..........kinda sounds icky

What are these matches from a movie?
DSC6520Partagas Culebras

I recently watched "Double Indemnity" and the main character was able to light matches to smoke a cigar with just the flick of his thumbnail. What kind of matches are they? Also, are they legal now?

Thanks in advance.

From Wikipedia:
There are two main types of matches: safety matches, which can be struck only against a specially prepared surface; and strike-anywhere matches, for which any solid surface can be used.

Strike anywhere matches
Two French chemists, Savene and Cahen, developed a safety match using phosphorus sesquisulfide. They proved that the substance was not poisonous, that it could be used in a "strike anywhere" match and that the match heads were not explosive. They patented a safety match composition in 1898 based on phosphorus sesquisulfide and potassium chlorate. Albright and Wilson developed a safe means of making commercial quantities of phosphorus sesquisulfide in the United Kingdom in 1899 and started selling it to match makers.
In 1901 Albright and Wilson started making phosphorus sesquisulfide at their Niagara Falls plant for the U.S. market, but American manufacturers continued to use white phosphorus based matches. The Niagara Falls plant stopped making it until 1910, when the United States Congress forbade the shipment of white phosphorus matches in interstate commerce. At the same time the largest producer of matches in the USA granted free use, in the USA, of its phosphorus sesquisulfide safety match patents. In 1913 Albright and Wilson also started making red phosphorus at Niagara Falls. Strike-anywhere matches are classed as dangerous goods, "U.N. 1331, Matches, strike anywhere"; and their carriage is forbidden on both passenger aircraft and cargo-only aircraft.

So, before the regular book matches, they would use this other type, which do make for some dramatic moments as they're lit with a fingernail/thumbnail or on jeans, shoes or even brick walls. Film noir is filled with these images.

What type of cigar should I get?
DSC6584Partagas Serie D No.4

I want to try cigar smoking, but do not know with what kind I should begin. I do not want to waste money going through multiple brands, but do want to find a good match for me.

Any recommendations?

I've only been smoking cigars for a few years but I'd recommend Ritmeester Moods Tubos (Fine Aroma) it's a cigar from the Netherlands and is very smooth and has great flavour - perfect for a beginner, I absolutely love this cigar and can't recommend it to you enough!

I'd stay away from the really bold and strong cigars until you've been smoking them for a while or it might turn you off .First one I had was a cuban cigar - Romeo Y Julieta, it was very strong and it neary turned me off (it is a nice cigar though and I do smoke them now.)

Whatever you do, avoid those crappy cigars you buy in the supermarket, the tobacco used is terrible and they taste shit with an even worse after taste.

I need a good company to order wedding matches from!?
DSC6507Partagas Culebras

since we are having a cigar roller, I figured I should order customized match books as well. I have been researching but I am finding a lot of places charge "proof" fees. Does anyone have any good recommendations on specific companies, feedback or recommendations of avoiding paying the "proof" fee? any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

We ordered ours from the site below and they turned out great.

Where can I purchase Cedar Matches?
DSC6565Partagas Serie D No.4

I read everywhere that in order to smoke a nice cigar, you should light it with a cedar match. My only problem is that I cant find any! Any place online would help! Thank you!

I honestly don't know, but I would think a smoke shop (where you buy tobacco, pipes and the like) would carry them or know where to order them from. Have you tried Googling this question?
