Basically my schools Haloween ball is coming up and me and a mate are going as Mafia gangsters (not very haloweeny i know but what the hell!) Im gonna buy a big fat cuban cigar to complete my look and ill no doubt be smoking the thing later on (don't worry i am old enough!)
Im told the taste is really awful and makes you throw up so how do i prepare for the taste, i don't want to vomit all over the dancefloor!!!
Don't listen to any of the previous answers you have received, yes smoking kills, its a bad habit etc... but your not going to a church picnic your going to a halloween disco. If you haven't smoked cigars before but you just want to have a cigar to fit your costume, i would just pick the biggest cigar you can get in your price range. (Not necessarily Cuban.)
As for taest Cuban cigars don't taest awful, Cuba produces some of the finest cigars in the world. Its more of an acquired taest.
when your smoking the cigar, remember it is not a cigarette, limit yourself to one draw per minuet(ish). don't inhale the full drag, hold it in your mouth for a couple of seconds and then exhale. ( I exhale half the smoke and bring the rest into my lungs but this is entirely down to personal choice)
And most importantly don't listen to anyone who tells you how you should be smoking your cigar, its yours; you bought it with your money and you can stick it in your eye if that's what you want to do.
take it easy

I was just wondering how to tell an authentic cuban cigar from a fake.
Cheers
It's not that easy to distinguish a (real) Cuban cigar. It's a job for specialist , same as for diamonds. The magazine
Cigar Aficionado still rates Cuban Cigars among the best in the world , the Cohiba Lancero was rated 92/100 points in the blind taste tests.
Authentic Cuban cigars are expensive and the average prices are between 10-20 US$ each. These cigars are made of well selected leaves and made with a lot of manual labor, this make them so unique. The high price atracts a lot of counterfeit cigars, the profits are huge a false Cohiba is sold on the streets in Cuba for 2-3 dollar. This cigars are made of tabacco waste and banana leaves. You can only buy authentic Cuban cigars in Cuban State owned cigars shops or official international dealers.
An authentic Cuban cigar has a solid feel ( no tabacco waste inside) but the most important is the taste. The "real" ones have a soft delicious taste, while the counterfeit cigars have a " burnt wood " taste. Don't rely on certificates , holograms and original boxes , they are all forged.

this baseball player that went to cuba, an brought back cuban cigars is selling them for $20 each, they look real... is it a good deal?
Ask to see the invoice - if he bought them legally, he would have got a proper invoice. Even if he hides the price, that will show you they are genuine.
Are they hand-rolled, not machine-made ?
Black-market cigars costs up to about $60 a box.
Fake cigars are a lot cheaper.
The cigars the average Cuban smokes are about $1 for a box !
Cuban cigars are illegal in the United States, except for pre-embargo cigars which are very rare and extremely expensive. If U.S. citizens attempt to buy, own or bring any Cuban cigars into the U.S., they may be subject to fines and other penalties, depending on the particular circumstances.
Cuban Cigars Are Illegal at Home and Abroad
Technically, although an American citizen cannot even purchase or smoke a Cuban cigar while traveling abroad, there may not be any practical way to enforce the restriction. That being said, a cigar smoker who ever wanted to try a Cuban cigar may want to take the chance while traveling in other countries. Canada and Mexico are not very far from many American cities, and those who are planning a Caribbean cruise will find Cuban cigars for sale on many of the islands. There is, however, a problem with counterfeit Cuban cigars being sold to American tourists. To improve the chances of getting the real thing, make your purchase from a reputable cigar store, and not one of the many street vendors that you'll see near the port. Do not buy any more cigars that you intend to smoke while abroad.
Know the Risks
Cuban Assets Control Regulations, 31 C.F.R. Part 515, (Revised September 30, 2004) are administered and enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Criminal penalties for violation of the Regulations can go as high as $1 million for corporations, and $250,000 for individuals plus up to 10 years in prison. In addition, civil penalties of up to $65,000 per violation can be imposed by OFAC.
The Forbidden Fruit
In general, Cuban cigars are the best in the world. However, a particular Dominican, Honduran or Nicaraguan cigar can taste better than a particular Cuban cigar. Being Cuban does not automatically make a cigar great, but it does make it the forbidden fruit, and therefore, desirable to some connoisseurs. There are so many great cigars in this world, more than one person can ever sample, that it may not make sense to violate our country's laws just to smoke a cigar from Cuba
I don't smoke, so I don't know much about this. My dad has smoked for about 40 years, Rothmans Cigs. As far as I know he hasn't smoked cigars. Is there a Cuban Cigar that he would like? Taste compared to the cigs that he likes? I was going to buy him a nice Zippo Lighter and maybe a few quality cigars. Cubans are legal in Canada so they are easy to buy. Thanks.
i suggest u give hime a pack of flvoured cigars just for a change. I am sure he is gonna like it.

It is just that its illegal or is the tabbacco just that great?
It's the tobacco. But from what I hear the Dominican cigars are a bit better yet, and not illegal in the US. Both of those countries have ideal growing conditions for tobacco, and make a lot of effort to make good cigars.
