I was always told that Cuban cigars, unlike American cigars are of such high quality that they come with a mild euphoric high. I just received 2 Romeo y Julieta hand rolled Cuban cigars, and was wondering what I might feel while smoking them. I know i will find out when i do smoke them, but i would like to know first hand, before i do so. And also whats the proper way to smoke a cigar. This being the first cigar i will have ever smoked, i would like to get the maximum experience.

The truth is Cuban tobacco is of a higher quality then most other places in the world.... However, it is every bit as likely that you will get just a good a cigar (if not better) from somewhere like the Dominican or Honduras... It has a lot to do with the way they are rolled.
The cause for the "euphoria" when smoking a cuban cigar lies in the tobacco itself... Cuban soil has a very high lithium content... High lithium content in the soil leads to high lithium content in the tobacco leaves... If you didn't figure it out yet lithium is the cause for this mild euphoric experience... Lithium is the active ingredient in many prescription anti-depressants(Lithium Bicarbonate)... In essence smoking a cuban cigar can be like taking an antidepressant or mood elevator...
Don't expect to feel like you just took a bowl of pot to your head but I do feel heavy after a good cuban. As for the proper way to smoke one... Cut off the end with a cigar cutter (or poke a hole, but i recommend cutting) Take one deep puff at a time and let it roll around in your mouth and take in the flavor (DO NOT INHALE) if you inhale you will most likely gag instantly and throw up.

One of my all time favorite cigars is the Romeo y Julieta Churchill…I’ve smoked many and other than the rare occasion where there may be a slightly tough draw, these stately cigars never fail to please in the taste department…Last night I lit a Wide Churchill that I had been holding on to for about a year and I enjoyed almost an hour and a half of very enjoyable smoking…This cigar has a ring gauge of 55 and 5 1/4 inches in length with the factory name “Montesco”…Originally I wanted to taste the same Romeo profile in the Wide Churchill, which was introduced by Habanos in 2010 but was met with a different approach in it’s blend which was woody and revealed notes of dark coffee…One year later, after some time to mellow out in the humidor and we are now enjoying a smoother, somewhat more elegant cigar that still has all of the coffee notes but also with more of a balance between the coffees, cedar and white pepper…More of the recognizable Romeo y Julieta profile now appears… I must also add that the cigar’s construction was marvelous in that the draw was perfect but also the appearance showed only subtle binder veins and a wonderful flawless wrapper… I’m, once again, reminded as to how a young cigar can evolve and improve with patience and a proper humidor…
