Wood Cigar Boxes

Answers

We are sanding wood cigar boxes and then wood like to painting them and decoupage how do we go about doing thi
indoor smoking too

Once you sand them, you can either restain them another color or paint them. Once you have the boxes the base color you desire, mix one part white glue with one part water. You can also buy Mod Podge in either a matte or gloss finish. Mist the image you wish to decoupage with water (to avoid bubbles) and then paint the decoupage medium on the back of the image. Smooth out the image to remove wrinkles or bubbles, a credit card or brayer works well to do this. Allow the images to thorughly dry and apply at least 3-5 more coats of decoupage medium. You may need to lightly sand or steel wool in between coats to remove the brush strokes. Once you have the desired number of coats, seal the entire item with two coats of a non-yellowing polyurethane.

help me identify this cigar boxes year please?
Painted Boxes [Day 211/365]

I have green wood cigar box with JOSE ESCANLANTE DIV
NEW YORK, NY 10016
TP2429 PENNA
CLASS F
The ordinary retail price of the cigars herein contained is intended by the manufacturer to be more than 15 cents each and not more than 20 cents each.
50 cigars
U.S. patent numbers 2592554 other u.s and foreign patents applied for.
the box has two hinges that are covered in greent tape.. No other marking on box inside lid or out. does anyone know the year I have searched on ebay on other sites but can't find this on. on bottom. cigars where between 15 and 20 cents.

Judging by the price I would presume around 1940's. Turn of the century would have been no more than .5 cents because Ive collected antiques for a long time now and found that to be the norm around that time. It was the invent of the five and dime time of Woolworth and such. Between fifteen and twenty was a steeper price and that coincides to around the great depression time. It should be pretty close to what I just said, if not I would be quite surprised if it was anything sooner or later.

why are expensive cigars packed in cedar boxes and casings?
Vintage Cigar Boxes

What effect if any does the wood have on the cigar and is any other kind of wood used to line cigar casings or cigar boxes?

Cedar wood is generally soft, so it helps sustain humidity necessary to keep the cigars healthy and moist.
The mention of keeping insects out is also true.
Cedar is also a very aromatic wood, but not in an overpowering way. I offers a pleasant aroma when you open the box, but not so much that your sticks are necessarily tainted with said aroma.
No other wood is used to line cigar boxes, with the exception of cheap, machine-made cigars which often use paper or cardboard... but those are garbage anyway.
As far as the casings, I assume you mean the cedar wrapping found around some cigars. This is rare, but it acts in the same way as a splash of vermouth acts in a glass of gin... it doesn't necessarily make it better, but it is damn good.
Hopefully this helps you. And, please, ignore the haters. Cigars can be extremely enjoyable, and are FAR less damaging than cigarettes or smokeless tobacco... plus they actually smell good as well!

Looking for information on a "El Producto Queens" cigar box bought at a garage sale. Thanks?
viertien en een halve gulden

I have 2 very old authentic cedar Honduran cigar boxes when cigars were only 25 cents each. Price boxes?
hofnar

These boxes are gorgeous, one is 6"x6"x3 1/2", the other is 9" across, 7" long, and only 1 1/2" tall. Both made entirely of cedar and have all original papers and burnt work on wood. One is Dutch Masters, the other is Baccarat. They have great brass hardware to open/close and on the hinges in back. Each held 25 cigars.
I have a neighbor who wants to buy them from me ( they were given to me from an acquaintance years ago) but I have no idea how much to sell them for. Can you help with any ideas for pricing these rare boxes? Thanks in advance:-)

The Baccarat box is no older than 30 years old - it was introduced in 1978. Not sure about the DM.

Its very difficult to price something like these as its a very small, niche market and only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

I bought a second-hand cigar box to use for storing tissues but it smells. I've tried bi-carb?
kistjes

but it still has a horrid aroma. It's not a tabbacco smell, more like an "old" wood smell and it smells on the outside aswel as the inside.
The box is made of plywood and the outside has some very nice decoration on it, probably done with a soldering iron.
Any suggestion for removing the smell without spoiling the box please?

fill the box with scrunched up newspaper and close the lid - leave for a couple of days and the newspaper will absorb the smell

Table Tennis or Ping Pon

Table Tennis or Ping PonIt consists of a card table, separating the two halves by a net, with two players with their respective rackets and a ball must pass to the opposite field after hitting the table once. Much is lost when the ball is passed to the opposite field. In this sport basically have to have great reflexes and excellent traction due to the speed that keeps the ball during the game. Its development has been spectacular in recent years, being one of the sports that has the largest number of licenses in the world. Source: Table tennis is a spectacular sport in which the reflexes and coordination are essential.

It originates in England in the late nineteenth century, it seems that tennis players were frustrated in their games with a bad weather invented an indoor game based on the sport they wanted to practice. A long dining table, a rubber ball for children, a network made ??of ropes or books and created a racket with a wooden board (such as cigar boxes) were enough to play the first table tennis. Subsequently, and in the twentieth century several inventors and entrepreneurs designed wooden rackets, rubber wood, aluminum and string, but finally won the rubber, as well as design different table games with different rules. In addition, imported American balls made ??from a new material, celluloid. One game recorded was the “Ping-Pong” in 1902 by Arnold Parker, by the sound produced when striking the ball the racket and table. This game was exported to the colonies, where he began to practice.

In England, began making the first tournaments in the early years of the twentieth century, created teams, associations, books and magazines about the game. In the decade of 20 the game became popular in other countries such as Sweden, France, Netherlands, Hungary and Germany. In 1926 he is the ITTF (International Table Tennis) and organized the first World Championship. A year later the Federation announces the rules of the 2 modes of play, the English based on 21 points, and European-based sets of six games. In 1928 the European system is removed and secured the English game system. It is an Olympic sport since the Seoul Games 88. The current sport is played best of 5 sets to 11 points (difference of two) You can play single or double mode. The serve must bounce once in the proper field and once in the enemy camp, without touching the network.
