How do I make my BMX Felt bike lighter?
Felt X:City 1

I currently own a 2007 Felt Fuse with all stock parts. I am starting to get into biking and want to know if there are some custom parts out there that will make my bike lighter. Especially the back end. It is really heavy. Can I take off my gyro? Is it worth it?

shadow makes axle nuts made out of aluminum, half the weight of a traditional steel nut, they also make hollow stem bolts. a lot of companies make stems that are machined like crazy which is always a good way to loose weight on the front end. if your rims are 48's, try 36's. yes take your gyro off if you dont need it and instead run a linear slic cable. take your pegs off if you dont use them. if you can afford it run a titanium spindle for your cranks. run a smaller driver instead of the 12 you are running, a good gear ratio is 25-9. youll have less chain, a smaller sprocket. buy a pivotal seat and seat post. folding tires are much lighter. run plastic pedals, they're just as grippy, cheaper, and much lighter. loose your chain tensioner, cut your axles down to the nuts. companies also make various titanium parts for your bike as well but are not really necessary, do all what i mentioned and youll get your bike down to 24 25 pounds. eventually when you progress youll want to grab a pro frame, forks and bars which are all much lighter because its all butted metal

i am going to buy a trek or a felt bike under $1600 what should get?
Felt X:City 1

i am going to buy a bike under $1600 either a trek or a felt, what should i get? I like the 1.2 1.5 and 2.1 treks, but i also like felt as a company but don't know to much about them.

recommendations, and experiences will be greatly appreciated.

More important than brand is how the bicycles geometry and size fits your size and style of riding. I want to touch on the first part of that. Many bicycles sold under different brand names, are actually built and assembled by a small number of factories. In fact many competing brands will offer identical bikes, and the only difference is in the decals. They were made in the same place, using the same materials, and built by the same workers. Some of these factories have license to produce components under popular names, and often different name-brand items are actually made on the same CNC machines.

Whats more important is fit. Frame geometry, frame size, top tube length, seat tube length, stem size and rise, crank arm length and Q-factor. The simple answer is ride both bikes before you decide.

However, I'd like to make a suggestion. A $1600 bike is not the bike to learn what your preferred angles and measurements should be. That's an expensive lesson. I'd suggest buying a more basic road bike to be your "discovery" bike, something in the $600 range. Learn about proper frame measurement and how angles affect the ride before you buy it. Find out why stem length, handle bar width and crank arm length all make a difference, and then spend some money buying and trying the different size components to see what feels better to you.

Proper fit is a complex process, but when you know what angles and particular measurements are right for you, then making a bicycle choice will be simple. It will be the bike with the right numbers, not the right decals.

I bought a FELT F5C Road Bike, How can i use the speeds?
Felt X:City 1

I have two controls for the speeds, one in one side, which one is for decrease and which one is for increase??, I dont nothings about bike, I'm trying to start in this sport.

While I agree with the last answer, is this a joke? You bought a $2,000 bicycle and you don't know how to shift the gears? Did you buy it at a bike shop? If you did, what shop did you buy this bike from? I'll make sure to put them on my "Never Going to Visit" list. The shop should've helped you with that. If you bought private party, you should've mentioned it to the seller. For all of this, you could've been out riding and enjoying yourself instead of sitting here waiting for one of us to give you the answer- if this is real.

How to convert gearing for Felt Fuse bmx bike?
Felt X:City 1

I was wondering how I would change my gearing(other than changing the chainring to a 25t) to a 25/9 gear setup. What would I do to the rear hub to change it to a 9t driver? Also if you needed a link for info-http://www.feltbmx.com/08/product.asp?catid=1477,1481&pid=8622

Thanks a lot!

You would have to buy a whole new back rim that has a 9t rear hub and get a 25t sprocket. You would have to back them separate but Haro came out with a HARO 25/9 CONVERSION KIT(it comes in different colors too) it comes with the rim with a 9t driver and a 25t sprocket. You would also have to shorten the chain, the gearing ratio has to be the same or close to it.

was spit on while riding my bike home, it felt like non of the spit got on my lips but could i get herpies?
run_up

hi i had some trouble at school with this bully that day and i told him off, but as i was riding my bike home someone spit out the window and all the spit went into my face i could feel were the spit was and it felt like non of it got on my lips, but could i get herpies or a cold soar from this awful experience?

I'm sorry that you're having a rough time of it, but one thing that you DON'T need to concern yourself about with this is catching herpes. Herpes is spread through skin-to-skin contact, not fluids.

Good luck.
