What is the difference between felted wool that you buy at quilt shops and felt that you buy at Walmart?
Electric blue stash bag

I have a pattern that calls for felted wool. I would like to know if the felts are the same or are they processesd or made different. Is the one at walmart wool?

The one at WalMart is generally not wool. At fabric stores they sometimes carry both wool and poly felts. Check the end of the fabric bolts and it should say what it is made of. If you are buying the squares (even though they are actually rectangles) they are most likely not wool but the poly.

Some Joann's and Hancock's will carry the wool felt but I have not used them so I don't know if they are the same quality as what they carry in the quilt stores.

If it can hold up to an iron, it's wool. Otherwise, it's poly of some sort. (when testing, make sure you use a press cloth or be prepared to clean your iron!)

Can you iron on felted knitting without ruining it?
Set Picture Alternative

I'm knitting felted bags for some of my friends and want to add some cute patches I've found but am a horrid seamstress and would much rather use an iron-on than sew them by hand. I've heard maybe ironing on low with a towel in between. Anyone know if this will destroy my felting?

Your felted knitting is already 'destroyed'. I have a pressing sheet, and it may be worth your while acquiring one, or else using baking parchment. If you iron on Low with a towel, then not enough heat will go through to melt the glue on the patch. And remember to finish off by ironing on the wrong side as well.

Can you tell if a piece is knit or crocheted after it is felted?
Set Picture

I have an idea to make a cat basket and felt it. I want to crochet a round bottom and then knit the sides, but I want to have some idea as to how it will look once felted. I have not felted before and thought this could be a fun project.

It's much easier to felt if you knit it. Crochet is too tight, and you need very loose stitches to felt. Don't knit too tight.

But in the end, it will be very similar. I don't think your cat will care one way or the other which you used. All he wants is that it is the right size.

How did you felt after giving birth? How great you felted after holding your little one?
bulldog

I felted realived..glad i had him in my arms and dindt had to wait any longer..i felted blessed when i had him in my arms..felted so full of joy and exitedment...giving birth was a wonderful experiment for me.
i meant experience

My son is 17 months old. 14 yrs ago I was told I could never have another child after my daughter was born. I was told I'd never be able to conceive again and if I did I would never be able to carry term. Well my son is a true miracle if there is one. At 14 weeks into my pregnancy I had a cerclage placed and at 25 weeks placed on bed rest (had appointments weekly as well as ultrasounds twice a month then weekly at 26 weeks). I delivered 5 weeks early. At 9cm I felt my first and ONLY contraction and got an epidural. I hear so many ppl saying how they had no control over their legs and so forth I didn't experience that. The second I held my son it was such a relief I didn't want to let him go. But I had to for 24hrs so they could watch him in the nursery since he was premature. I had my tubes tied 2 hrs after delivering and when I was up to it sat at his incubator until I almost fell asleep that night. The following day he was brought down to me at 8am and I didn't put him down til almost 1pm.

I'll never have another my children are 13yrs 1 month 15 days apart (may my daughter RIP 9-3-2007) but he's amazing in every sense of the word

Would a knit piece that was felted start to unravel if it was cut?
bulldog

Or would it be like material in that I could cut a certain shape out and it won't unravel.

If it has been well felted/fulled (with soap, not detergent) you should be able to cut it to shape without unraveling the stitching. You might get some "whiskers" from the cut fibers at the edges though.

Any free patterns for knitted felted flowers out there?
bulldog

I'm looking for a free knitting pattern for felted flowers to use as brooches and embelishments. Any ideas?
I know about Google people. I meant specific books or websites. Thanks
