Let's be honest. Most campers use some sort of lighter to start their camp fires. Over the years I've been frustrated by the limitations ...
We bought a rather expensive butane lighter in the shape of a small derringer. I have tried to refill the lighter and other types of butane devices but I have never had much luck. Is there some trick to the process?
It's been a while, but I, too, used to have trouble. Try holding the butane refilling container either upside-down or right-side up. One way or the other should fill your lighter. It may say on the can which way is best. Sometimes the refilling containers come with several different refilling adapters -- generally, go with the smallest one that fits your derringer.
I have had this butane lighter for about six years. It just recently stopped producing a flame.
I have tried turning the pressure way down and slowly going up and kept going until there was just too much pressure to even ignite.
When I press to ignite, i can see the spark, and there is a small flame, but it will not sustain.
(And yes... there IS fuel inside)
Any quick tips/suggestions? (besides getting a new lighter, which I will eventually do anyway)
I might just add to make sure any ventilation holes around don't have lint blocking that would impede the designed air mixture.
It could be that some debris has gotten into the valve and is restricting it from inside. Maybe has gotten in when refilling.
Every time I get a butane torch lighter, it runs out of fuel and I cannot refill it. I have been told that when it is so low on fuel it does not light, I must release any pressure by holding down the valve before attempting to fill the lighter. I then buy a new fuel canister and try to fill the lighter by holding it upside down. In fact I have tried every position. The lighter accepts little or no fuel and will not work from that point forward. This has happened with more than 5 different lighters from different sources. What am I doing wrong?
i have never released the pressure before refilling my butane lighters- if possible, turn your flame as low as it will go, and hold straight vertical. you want to come straight down on the valve, so you dont break or bend it(lighter.)my husband fills lighters with several short "bursts"of butane, but i usually just do 1 to fill. what may be happening is that the butane is leaking right back out of lighter, so what you might want to try is, after filling, flip the lighter back right side up, and ALWAYS wait until lighter is no linger cold to the touch before trying to ignite. i hadn't had any luck with butane refillable lighters until just here recently, so i can feel your frustration. hoppe this helps!!
I have a store bought Butane lighter (not zippo) and it has a wire running across like normal, but in the middle there is a ball of some type that gets red hot when litten, now my lighter burns green flame and was wondering if this was the cause... by the way the lighter came with the ball on it and its been reducting in size
I had a multicolored flame lighter that looked the same way. So it probably was supposed to have a green flame the whole time. If you leave it lit for long amounts of time it will burn down the lil ball.
If a butane lighter doesn't have something to let you know the level of the fuel, how can you tell when the lighter is full while refilling it? I don't know if over filling can cause a problem or not so I want to know if there is a better way than just waiting for the gas to jet out the sides of the refill can.
I think the only way you know for sure if the lighter is full of butane is for it to spurt out when full and I don't believe it hurts anything for it to do that.
