I have a 2003 Acura TL. There is a power source where i could plug things in such as a GPS or charge my phone. Is that same hole where those things get plugged in called a cigarette lighter? Does it really shoot flames and light a cigarette on fire. I dont see any fire. How can I light a cigar with the car cigarettes lighter? Where is it?
does the car automaticly come with a cigarette lighter. Is that the same as the power source outlet?
Most new cars come with accessory power port aka cigarette lighter, there is very little differences, both supply 12 volt power from the plug, it is how it transfer the power that makes it a cig lighter or a power source.
Your GPS or cell phone will have a voltage reducer that will reduce the voltage from 12 volts to 5 volts for most electronic devices these days.
The cig lighter plug heats up much like your counter top stove that have the coils, it does not have fires but builds up heat through supplying power to ground creating aresistantt that gets red hot.
It'scheaperr to buy a good lighter since a lot of people have been know to drop the cig lighter and having an accident looking for the damn thing while driving. A lighter issaferr since there is no fire once your hands are off of it.
Good Luck
My car cigarette lighter hasn't worked for years and I couldn't find any definitive answers on the net. I finally took it apart and came ...
I use a breast pump to pump milk for my baby. I will be working at a festival where I have no electricity and I don't have ready access to my automobile to plug into the cigarette lighter. My husband wants to rig a car cigarette lighter to a car battery somehow so I can plug the equipment in and use it in our tent. Will this work? I called Batteries Plus and they want me to buy a deep cycle battery and inverter instead, but it is REALLY expensive.
If he can build a circuit to limit the amperage, then yes. otherwise the 40 Amps cranking power of a car battery will cook your pump and maybe your breast.
The lighter socket only comes with wires. The circuit will need resistors to set up the circuit properly.
I want to run the MP3 plugin adapter (12 V) which runs thro' the car cigarette lighter by using dry cells. Would that be possible? How many cells would be required?
First you need to get a 12 volt lantern battery, that will provide all you need. they have a large capacity. second. the wattage is actually based on the fuse. a 20 amp fuse gives 240 watts. Ohms law - Volts x Amps = Watts, a 25 amp fuse gives 300 watts, and so on. your mp3 adapter prolly uses very little power 50 to 100 watts, so you should be ok using a lantern battery. if you wanted to pack 8 AA batteries together, you could also do it that way, however, it will drain those 8 before it would drain the one lantern battery. if you do decide to go with 8 AA or 8 c's or 8 d's, (all will give 12 volts and enough current) go to radioshack and ask for the appropriate battery holders. this will make the project neater.
I just bought a charger for my PDA and I have it plugged into the car cigarette lighter. I never take it out and my question is, is that harmful to the charger itself?
I have a VW Golf 1.6 Mk4 2002. My cigarette fuse blow up so i changed it but the cigarette lighter socket is stll not working. I have 2 cigarette lighter sockets...one in the front and another in the boot of my car. The one in the boot works but not the one in the front. I tried changing the cigarette lighter socket but it still does not work.
Anyone has any ideas what may be wrong?
Thanks
Check the wiring as you may have melted the insulation and caused a short.
I have seen this electric car heater that says it will plug into my car cigarette lighter socket, it is 12V , im not sure if my Rover 400 1998, will be able to accept this, do most cars have 12v adapter socket, and should i buy it.
