I am hoping to purchase a zippo lighter. My mother is unsure whether to get a lighter because of safety issues. How can I prove to my mom that zippo lighters are "safe" enough and I am responsible?
Well, it matters what you're going to use the lighter for. Zippo lighters are great because they look cool, they can be personalized, they're refillable, and pretty reliable. The only downside is that the flame usually tends to be a little big and not easily controlled, so if you're trying to control the flame carefully with crafts or whatnot they might not be as useful as a simple bic lighter. As for personal safety, they're no more dangerous than any other lighter, and perhaps safer than a store bought because your flint and wick are encased. Just show your mom that you're responsible and that there's no reason to fear. Good luck and happy lighting :)

My husband got a Zippo lighter about 15 years ago. It is engraved with his name and has special meaning to him. But recently it does not light. It has a new flint and is full of lighter fluid. He says the wick is used up and he needs to replace it but I can not find one. Any have any ideas? Thanks!
I don't know where you live but if you go to this link it's got wicks, fuel and accessories. http://www.zippo.com/Products/Accessories.aspx at the bottom of the page there is another link to take you to local stockists if you're not in the USA. Hope that helps you.
I just got a zippo lighter and everytime i try to turn it on it just makes a spark, so does that mean I need fluid?
The seller will NEVER put the fluid in them when shipped. Is against mail delivery rules.
I need to know if charcoal ligher fluid ( the stuff for igniting charcoal grills) can replace regular ligther fluid for zippo lighters.
NO there is to much oil in it, will kill your zippo......done it
Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble refilling my zippo lighter. I bought a can of zippo butane fuel but its got this weird pressure system i cant figure out, sort of like a hairspray can, but the nozzle is impossible to figure out how the fuel actually comes out.
The directions on the can are cryptic and dont help at all. Do you hold it upright and stick it in the zippo padding, or do you hold it downwards? I tried both ways and got my fingers frozen for some reason.
Looking for advice from someone who actually knows what refiller I'm talking about.
Someone help!
zippos take lighter fluid, not butane...
all you do with a zippo... is pull out the piece... hold it upside down and put the bottle on top of it, upside down.. and squeeze a few times... so that there is about a tablespoon of fuel in it..
now for a butane lighter... you need to take a small object like a knife, or a screwdriver, that is really small made for eyewear or something, and prod it in the bottom of the lighter... there should be a little metal tube... smaller than a toothpick... you have to press down on that while it is upside down...
this releases the air in the lighter...
then you take your butane can and shake it up real good, and then press down with the can on to that same little tube... with the tube that is on the butane can... and let it sit for about 8 seconds... and then take it off, and then let the lighter set for about a minute before lighting, so that the gas can get room temperature...
I'm from singapore. Please recommend places where I could get a REAL Zippo lighter cheaper than usual. My budget is about $30 and below.
