How come more people don't take the time to sit back and enjoy some find pipe tobacco in a nice briar pipe? Pipe smoking used to be very popular among all age groups. Now a days it seems people just want a quick hit, and smoke cigarettes. In my opinion, people should take the time and relax, and start smoking a pipe.

I live in new jersey so it's nevery really that humid outside,would it be okay to smoke a briar tobacco pipe about 3 times a day (giving it at the very least least 3-4 hourst to cool off and dry out between smokes)everyday without giving it a few days off between smokes?
and if it is bad for the pipe what would happen to it if I did smoke it that often?

You don;t really want to. It is best to get a "rotation" going. You will end up "souring" the pipe if you smoke it every day 3 times. You are best getting a couple good pipes and resting the pipes.

I think it would be cool to have a smoking jacket for when I am sitting around the house smoking one of my fine briar pipes or a fine cigar. Should I get a smoking jacket? My wife has no opinion, so I am going to ask the yahoo answers community instead.
Yes, it is a sign of sophistication and a mark of a civilized man. As a true noble man of noble birth and fine lineage you must also have the pipe and the brandy. It must also be worn in a proper place , preferably within the confines of a private study or library. Topics such as history and science must be comtemplated or discussed if with others.

I think the principle lies in whether or not a particular habit enslaves the user.

I would like a price range under 200 dollars.But I want a good pipe to smoke. I like briar and mershum and I know merschum is more expensive. Please advise.

It really depends on personal taste in my opinion your better of with a briar as they tend to last longer, as for buying a Meerschaum pipe they tend to be quite fragile and unless you buy one from Turkey where the best Meerschaum comes from (also very expensive) you will end up a cheap pressed Meerschaum pipe or African Meerschaum which is of inferior quality when compared to Turkish Meerschaum. The best brand in my opinion is Peterson or Black Star both of which have been in business for a long time and are well priced. Check out www.peterson.ie
What would you rather smoke? A premium hand rolled cigar, or a fine briar tobacco pipe with good pipe tobacco.
I smoke both, however the last couple of years have seen me pull a cigar out of the humi more and more - guess I'm just getting lazy as I get older.
I have 11 pipes that are just sitting there and McCranies is here in town - I might have to pack a bowl tomorrow nite........

Ode to The Briar Pipe
You know in this day and age of healthier, slimmer, risk-free individuals whose intestines all work, I can't help but think that smoking a good briar pipe every once in a while is the duty of every red-blooded American!
I'm not advocating smoking here necessarily b/c I don't much like the cigarette and can't stomach cigars much beyond an occasional Swisher Sweet (or Turd as my friend Trex calls them), but to smoke a briar puts one in good company. Clark Gable, Basil Rathbone, Carey Grant, Johann Sebastian Bach, even. Perhaps they were just dead white males ... but they sure had class! I can just hear this poem set to Die Kunst der Fugue (or something)
