I am looking at a 1920s tin cigarette box. There are rust stains and scratched-off paint. I think I have a good idea about how to take care of the rust, but what kind of paint would be best for this job?
Thanks!
It's value will be gone either way: it's a theatrical prop and will get beaten up regardless. I just need it to look a bit newer than it does.
Lightly sand the whole case and spray paint it with chrome paint to restore the shininess. I would also spray a clear coat on top of the paint.

its in a rectangular purple tin box, and the chocolates are small round shaped. anyone remember the name?
I know there are the Cadbury "Chocolate Fingers", that come in the rectangular tins now. I don't know if the Cadbury "Buttons" used to as well.
I bought a new tin box. Well new to me, actually vintage... :)
I was planning on keeping pictures in it.. can they be affected negatively?
That is possibly the worst place. The silver in the photos reacting to the metal of the box is extremely likely...I would also be concerned with condensation on the metal. It is likely that sooner or later you will end up with ruined, stuck together pictures.
Find a box or album designed for holding photos. Look for acid free at least.
Im wondering what materials and tools do I need to glue the paper etc. to the tin box. If any of you scrapbookers know I really appreciate your help.
Teriffically Tacky Tape works great - it ahderes to metal like a champ ( you can find it at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore's and many other craft stores ), and it comes in several different widths.
Tombow adhesive works well, too, but it gets costly if you use too many refills.
If you need some ideas, check out www.splitcoaststampers.com their gallery has a section called 'anything but a card' and has a specific subsection for altered tins.
can anybody tell me what i could sell this for please. Its in a tin box and the box is well worn . All complete but has been well used. I would say in fair to good condition cheers
Put it on ebay and see what the bids go for.
Hello, I was wondering if you anybody knows what type of product can I use to glue my ribbons onto a tin box. I don't want just any types, but something that will make it looks as if it was done professionally. Thanks!
